Default Rev limiter?

Is there a rev limiter on specifically my bike? I am new to the bike and I am not certain I can gauge the rpms yet. So what happens if I crank on it? Will it bounce off the rev limiter like my stang? or will it go boom?

I have hit the rev limited only 2 times. Its like half the engine shuts down. It kind of falls on its face.

You can hear and feel it hit if you run it wide open moving or not.i notice it when in lower gears doing fast takeoffs

From your guys descriptions I guess I hit it a few times too. During hard accelerations where I want to wring the highest speed out of each gear before I have to shift. the engine seems to make a different sound and does kinda "fall on its face"

CharlieBox, first of all, welcome to the forum. To answer your question, yes, your bike specifically has a rev limiter.

The responses pretty much describe how the bike will react when you hit the rev limiter. It is part of the ignition system. I think it basically cuts off one of the cylinders from firing.

I hope that makes since. It's been a VERY long week...many miles had to be traveled in a rented CAGE of all things!!

Because my bike gets up to its limits so quickly, I have frequently hit the rev limiter. Not on purpose mind you but, it happens.Kind of glad that its there. I don't feel that by doing so,you are in any kind of jeapardy. Its there for a reason. I would imagine that if you were to continue to disregard the limiter and leave the full throttle on without shifting, that the engine would probablybegin to experience consequences. Likely just cut out totally. In my case, I have immediatly shifted into the next gear and, avoided any problems.

I've hit the rev-limiter more times thanI can count. Usually happens in colder weatherwhen I'm wearing a full face helmet and can't hear the engine as well.
