Thinking about the blackout lens but I really don't understand it. Only emits light backwards and not to the side?

Yep, only shoots light to the back. If'n you want one, pop your lens off, mask the license plate portion and the rear portion, then shoot it with some black paint. Done it to mine and it is different looking, plus cheaper than shelling out for a another lens to replace a perfectly good lens.

I have the blackout lens on my dyna. It's the same as the sportster. It is great. It's not like stock. It has LEDs and is super bright. It also lights up your plate. When it's not on it looks clear on the back and black on the sides. It realy looks cool an a black bike. Here is a link. http://www.j-pcycles.com/ProductDeta...-182&cs=Harley

You can do what pococj said but don't use straight black paint. Try night shade it's works great. Depends on how many coats you put on. The more the darker it will be. I have used it on alot of lenses on cars, trucks and motorcycles. It costs $8 a can.

Kikwear, paint is opaque, and ink is translucent, so go to a sign shop, get a M.P. screen ink that's black, thin with 5% xylene and spray it. Light will go through, but much reduced. If you can't find it, tell me and I can send you a sample.

The night shade is designed to allow the light to go through you are just tinting the lense. You can make it lense look almost black. Does anyone have any pics of what they did them selves?

Had one on my Roadking. I think they look really good on bikes that are supposed to look like older models, ie, Roadking, Heritage, etc., especially if the bike is black. I also think the blue dot is a nice touch, but check your state's laws. The blue dot is not legal in some states.

Regards,

Bill
