First oil change

First oil change
You guys must get a kick out of us newbies and our "same ol' questions". But I got to hand it to ya, you take it in stride and are respectful. Gotta love ya. Got a '97 1200 C and don't know what oil is in it now. I know not to mix "purple" and I'm puttin' in Mobil1 V-Twin 20W50. Will my dipstick LOOK purple if that's what they used? And, I drain the oil through the hose under the tranny (hose clamp around plug- after warming up bike, then put same plug in and tighten same clamp). Remove oil filter (clean surface, lube gasket, etc...) and put four or so ounces of oil in filter and hope it doesn't pour out as I screw it back on. I should then need only to add three quarts to the oil tank? Lastly, I don't have any kind of stand other than my kickstand. Can I do all this with the bike at an angle like that? Same question when I change my pri-trans. oil. Sorry so long winded.
Thanks!
Thanks!

RE: First oil change
Sounds like you have it. Side stand is OK, put a piece of cardboard or milk jug cut and bent under the filter todirect oil that will come out between the gasket and housing to your pan. 3 qts will fill it inc. filter. K&N makes a filter (# 171C )with a hex nut spot welded to the back it's alot easier using a socket than a filt wrench.
