RE: "No tach" is a drag for Sportsters.
So, on the sporties tach the redline is at 5900? I have had mine over 90 in third gear, I guessing thats about 64-6500 rpms (she was wound up tight but I think there was a little more). So my thinking is 4th gear 6500 is around 115 to 120, and 5th gear wound up tight would be near 145? Now I dont drive that fast its just a guess... I have the SE modules and coils and the Tmax crap on my bike. The module and coil states itswill rev to 6800.I dont have any idea about the top end except I doubt that its around 130 like I have heard on these forums, when you can do over 90 in third....Where exactly is the redline on a stock 1200s tach?

According to my tach--and my memory of driving in this morning, which may mean I'm a little off for 2nd & 3rd gears--and based on the speeds at 4,000 RPM, and assuming a 5900 RPM redline, the approx redlines for a 1200C are:
1st: 44 MPH
2nd: 59 MPH
3rd: 81 MPH
4th: 118 MPH
5th: 134 MPH
I wouldn't make a practice of shifting at redline, though, since 4000 RPM is the peak of the 1200's power band. Assuming a shift at 4000 RPM, that would come out approximately to shiting into:
2nd @ 30 MPH
3rd@50 MPH
4th @ 65 MPH
5th @ 80 MPH
Also, for Kieth, the 1200 engine wants to run at 4000 rpm. That comes out to 80 MPH in 4th gear, and 88 MPH in fifth. So, when you say it turns to stone on the slab,I don't know what you're talking about.
Or you don't.

Ahh, yes and the slab suck anyways, I dont drive them...

My "Turns to stone on the slab" commentdoesn't mean she losses power. I'm saying who cares where the RPM is when you hit 5th and fall in line behind 70 MPH traffic?
I'm suggesting he get out and hit the back roads where he can learn to "feel and hear" where he is in the powerband.....Experienced riders WITH tachs eventuallydon't need to look at them and DON"T bother.
As I have stated before; Riding a bike is like dancing....Good dancers don't look at their feet....They've got rythm and grace and they learned that by feel and practice.
I've also stated Harley doesn't make a 'starter' bike....Starter bikes have tachs and they are necessary at first....Yeah, some Harleys have tachs too, but even those riders eventually ignore them......You need a tach at the moment as a ref point till you gain more experience, then you will wish you had spent the bucks on chrome or a performance mod.
You just need some dancing lessons and to learn to get a feel for your dance partner, that's all.

Wayerd,
134 MPG is the CALCULATED top speed at factory redline in 5th gear. The math doesn't take into consideration wind drag and friction losses.
Your bike runs out of HP before it gets there, that's all......Performance mods will get you closer to the calculated max.......Speed cost money-How fast do you want to spend?

I have the SE modules and coils and the Tmax crap on my bike. The module and coil states itswill rev to 6800.
You can also change the ignition module to support a higher redline, as well, so, since you've apparently done that, the stock figures no longer apply to you.

Your bike is a stock 08? Cant say about that bike. I have an 03 1200 my bike weighs about 75 lbs less than your right off the bat, it alsohas stage 1 mods and someSE ign and Tmax mods. It WILL do 95 in third gear, I KNOW that... I usally backoff through the next 2 gears, my bones are getting older

I'm new w/ motorcycles.... but not retarted... I have trouble getting over 110 and you say redline is 134 (even tho the spedometer only goes to 120). Mine is an 08 1200C. I have about 1k miles. So why cant i get up to134??
