driver backrest for our Sportsters?

RE: driver backrest for our Sportsters?
I have the Pro-Tac driver backrest with the stock HD seat, and it works great. Easy to order, easy to install. I may trim it a little to fit me better, but it's a great piece at a good price($125 + $10 shipping).

Nah corbin seats are only good for about 150 miles at a time without your legs going numb, Mustang is the way to roll

I've got the Corbin Solo Seat w/optional backrest...
I've had it a little over a year.... love the backrest... I can't say the seat is all the comfortable though....
Thought it would get better with time... I was wrong...
It just may be my A$$ though...

RE: driver backrest for our Sportsters?
My rear end likes my Sundowner.
But my back likes the increased travel of the 12.5" Progressive 412s I replaced the stock 11.75" shocks with. If I could do it again, I think I'd go with 13" for just a bit more travel.
I'm only 5'9" with a 29" inseam, so the bars and forwards on my Custom have me leaned forward in a pretty good clamshell, so I'm not even sure how much use a backrest would be to me.
I think increasing your shock length so that small bumps don't use up all the travel (sending the rest of the jolt right up the spine) may be the best thing to try first.

I just got new Progressive 12 1/2" shocks.
As for the seat, I have been looking in to this for some time now. From what I have been told, on my 06 1200-C to really make the back rest work, I would need to add new pull back bars and new cables. Now, add that to the cost of the new drivers backrest seat and it's out of my price range.
I'm thinking of sending my stock seat to Mean City Cycles to have thim fix it up, then maby in a year or 2 I could afford a new seat and bars...

Protac is the outfit that makes a rider backrest for the 03 and earlier Sportster. You may want to give them a call and see if they have a new model available for the newer Sportsters.
The Protac model that I've seen is simple, adjustable, removeable, and reasonably priced. My buddy has one on a Kawa 750. He is in his 70's and rides lead in our group. The last bigbike riderwho went with himon a long trip couldn't handle the miles...
