Actually, aluminum has a greater thermal expansion coefficient than steel, meaning that it expands more at a given temperature than steel, so when the engine reaches operating temperature, the female threaded [spark plug] "hole" of the aluminum cylinder head is greater in diameter than the male threaded "plug" of the steel spark plug, affording a dimensional difference between the two threads where no so difference in dimension existed prior at room temperature. This temperature induced difference in dimension reduces the friction that exists between the two threads for easier plug removal.
