Default Grounded my 1200L, breaking the kickstand.

Went on a Singapore HOG ride at the weekend. Stopping for lunch, we all had to mount a step to get to the parking area. Knowing this, the HOG organisers hadpre-constructed a small ramp to get the bikes up the step.I took the ramp a little too fast and grounded the frame of my 1200L. Snapped off the little retaining pin that the kickstand spring hooks on to. Arghh [:@]

So, the spring falls off and kickstand flops around loose. Needed a bungy cord to keep it off the ground when riding. Dangerous. Premature end to the day's ride.

So ... take care, for those of you that have the 'Low' version of a Sportster 883 or 1200. I'm pretty sure that this could also happen if going over a raised speedbump. The pin that the kickstand spring hooks onto actually protrudes lower than the frame of the bike. Quite a fragile location to be honest. The annoying thing is that the pin is welded onto the frame of the bike. Took it to the stealership last night and just got blank looks from the guys there. Don't think that they have welding experience in Singapore. Jeeeeeezz!

Anyway .... waiting for the call this morning to find out the solution.

Bet they are still scratchin their heads! LOL

Welding it back on will surely ruin the paint job on the frame for atleast 3 inches in each direction.

I did the same thing on my RG but the spring straightened out before the hole broke. Let me tell you it's a bctih trying to get that spring back on.

That reminds me of when a huge potato-sized rock hit my frame and put a semi-nice-looking scratch in it. [&:]

Oh, and the ride I just did this weekend... there was this huge mound of assphault outta no where in a turn, and I heard a "ping" when I went next to it leaned... I don't think it was the peg, so it was probably the kickstand like you had. And I have a Roadster not a Low.

Must've scratched their heads red raw. One day gone by with no solution. There's apparently is a guy in the stealership building who welds, but he was too scared to take on the job in case he ruined the engine. If Mikey on American freakin' Chopper can weld, how hard can it be?!

Here's hoping they come up with somethin tomorrow. Only one day without my Sporty and I'm already feeling depressed.
