Default Belt Noise

Anybody know how to stop a drive belt from squealing? I'm on my second belt with the same problem.

Are you sure it's coming from the belt, and not the pulley?

Can't say I've ever had a Harley drive belt squeal if it was adjusted correctly, but I have heard it from a pulley if they start to go bad.

I haven't tried it but have read that if you rub a bar of soap on the sides of your belt, that will help. Is your rear wheel line up?

Maybe it's too loose?

A belt should be good for 80 - 100K miles. Have you checked the rear wheel alignment? You don't say how many miles you have on the bike but given it's an 06 the pulley shouldn't be worn unless it's been out of alignment for many miles.

It seems to me, if the belt were really squelling, you could pretty easily see where you are getting abnormal wear? I dunno, but I don't really see how the belt itself could be squelling. Drive line or something like that internal, but wouldn't the belt (and rear tire) be showing a considerable about of wear if they were rubbing?? And YIKES...not to mention all of the handling issues.

If it really is just a little belt noise... Pig Spit might do the trick... Follow the directions on the can and be careful not to overspray

The HD wheel alignment procedure is a pia. If you bend a piece of welding rod like they say it's to flexible for an accurate measurement not to mention the r. brake resevoir hoses being in the way. On all the previous bikes I owned (not HD) there were graduations and a mark to line up on right at the adjuster. Much easier and more accurate.

Belt tention and wheel alingment all seem ok.The belt makes the most noise on deceleration. No signs of wear on the belt. The first belt lasted 18,000 miles.
