best quote if you really want to get someone upset

Sonny Barger from his book Hell's Angel, The Life and Times of Sonny Barger and the Hell's Angels Motorcycle Club page 53:

"In pure terms of workmanship, personally I don't like Harleys. I ride them because I'm in the club, and that's the image, but if I could I would seriously consider riding a Honda ST1100 or a BMW. We really missed the boat not switching over to the Japanese models when they began building bigger bikes."

Barger is right, of course. If you want more power and reliability, a sport-tourer is where it's at. (Disagree about BMWs, though.) It takes a lot of money to get that kind of power out of a Harley. Actually, you never will, no matter what you do, V-Rods excepted.

But somehow a bunch of three-patched, bearded ne'er-do-wells on FJRs or ST1300s doesn't inspire the same image. And anyone who says that 1%ers don't care about image is naive.

Well if he truely had a set, he'd show up on a gold wing...
he'd be the .01% of the 1%ers...
now that would be a paradigm shift...

Hey Gents, just browsing through and this forum caught my attention. Its amazing how much judgement there still is on who rides what and why.Ive owned both metric and american, both have there pro's and con's which keeps the argument alive. However Ive stuck with, and currently ride american now.Not because I think its better, but because Ive found it easier to create a harley to fit your personallity then any other bike! They truly are a drug and Im addicted are you?

Back when I was kinda hangin around the fringe, all the prospects I saw for the Angels rode FXR's and every Vago I ever saw rode a FXR. But my memory may be a little clouded from the experience.

I agree; 10 years ago i was riding ducati and moto guzzi The other reason i switched is because no matter where you are in the US you can find a v-twin shop; little more difficult riding european v-twins; people get scared to touch those

Well depending on your research about 6 years ago the Mongols started recruiting 18th St Gang Members into the club and they were NOT even required to own or ride a bike.
