Default New Sportster 1200C Owner With Question

Hello everyone!

My name is Dave. I just took delivery of my first bike. I purchased a 2007 Sportster 1200 Custom. I live in the Levittown, PA area.

So, the dealer delivered the bike to my wife today while I was still at work. As you can imagine, I was pretty excited to get home and take it for a ride. I tooled around the neighborhood on it a bit todayand I noticed something that I wanted to see if I could get some input from the board on.

When starting off in first gear, not going too fast, I notice that the engine feels like it is "jumping" in the frame. Give it a bit ofthrottle and then decelerate a bit and it smooths out. I also notice this when shifting from first to second and so on. My question is am I just not giving it enough throttle when shifting and getting it going?

Sorry for such a newbie question but I thought I would give you all a try.

Thanks in advance!
Dave

Dave, congratulations on the new sporty. That's normal for the sportster to do that. A little bit of throttle will clear it right up. You'll get used to it and learn how to avoid it in no time. Enjoy that new bike and welcom to the forum.Stafford

The Sportsters don't like it when you take off slow. Give itsome more throttle.

Congrats Dave, I got my new 1200C on Aug. the 1st, they're geared a little tall in low gear but after 1,700 milesit's a non issue. I grew up in western Pa. only about3 miles from W.Va. and 4 miles from Ohio. From another Dave

Welcome to the board Dave. Just like 1200c driver said they are geared high in 1st. Took me a while to get used to it after riding off road bikes for years. Enjoy and ride safe.

It's normal on Harley's, that if you are at too low of RPM they will 'lug' and jump around a little..

But, just to be sure, you might check the engine mounts and make sure they are tight and secure. I have heard of a few cases where the mounts were loose, right from the factory.
