I think it would be real helpful here to know, after the bike stalled, what happened next? Has it ever restarted? Will it even sputter when you try and crank it

Ok did the bike restart, how long was warm up, did it sound fine during warm up, on my bike (cold) i pull the choke full out, twist the thrott couple times, hit starter, let run approx. 30 sec. push choke in till i have a nice idle (little high). and drive. drive like that till it idles on its own with the choke in, if it wants to stall i just leave the choke partially out some more. a bike with that few mi. even if it sat for a few months the gas shoudn't go bad that fast. maybe this will help.

After the bike sputters and dies, when I try to restart it it won't even crank. If I turn the ignition key off and wait a few minutes, I can turn the key and start it again. It'll idle fine then when I get moving again it sputters and dies. It seems after it has died that it Idle is way to high (with the choke all the way in)

When I start the bike I pull the choke fully out, start and wait about a minute then push it about 1/2 way back in and ride. After about a half mile or so I push the choke all the way back in. Someone else I spoke with said they thought it might be misfiring. I'm going to warm it up this morning and ride it around the block a few times to see if it still does the same thing with new plugs in. (autolite plugs from advanced autoparts) if it keeps missing I'll pull the plugs back out and examine them to see if they are black like the ones I pulled out.

I'm thinking I may have fouled both the old plugs from running it home overfull on oil. Does that sound right?

It has never failed to start on the first crank in the morning, even with the trouble I've been having with it.

That sounds like the ignition control module to me, might even be a simple as loose battery or chassis connections, but key off / key on sure sounds like it's basically rebooting the computer.

There is a service bulletin for our bikes concerning the ignition module that sites "rough idle and excessive richness". Look in the service bulletin area on this site. It has the p/n on the ignition module sticker for the ones affected.

If that is the problem, the dealer can re-flash the ignition module to correct the problem.

Problem fixed....

Added more gas to the tank.

Jesus I feel retarded. I was shaking the tank and hearing gas slosh around going... "Nope that's not the problem"

it runs like a champ now, go figure...

Go ahead and laugh. All of you have had a similar moment, I just thought I'd share mine being a noob and all

I expected to get 300 miles to the tank at least...

What gas do you all run through your sportys? I've only been using high test.

Hey all,
I've been lurking the site for a month or so while I was.......... I think the bike sat for several months before I picked it up.

Any 2 year old bike with 1800 miles on it has obviously been sitting a lot or used for really short tripa which is as bad or maybe even worse....glad to see you got her figured out though....reminds me of a scene from Slingblade....know which one?...:&gt
