The Dreaded "Winter Storage" Threads..
I noticed that the annual "Winter Storage" threads are starting to pop up again.....
For the life of me, I don't understand this popular procedure of tucking a bike under blankets each winter. These are bikes, not bears, and they don't need to go into hibernation until Spring.
I never 'winterize' any of my bikes, other than hooking them up to battery tenders when the temperatures are in the lower 30 or below.
And yes, we have a lot of snow, and pretty chilly temperatures during the winter. (Couple of pictures below to verify the fact).
Even in the winter you seldom go more than a week or so with conditions that don't allow riding. It might be 10 below zero one day, with over a foot of snow, and within a few days it might be up in the 40's with dry roads.
Nothing at all difficult about riding in 30 degree weather, so I say HECK with 'winterizing bikes' anymore than 'winterizing cars and trucks'.
That's my opinion, and I'm sticking with it.

when the snow melts in my area, tons of sand and salt are left in it's wake. I do not want to subject my bike to that. especially the salt. I hate putting it away for the winter, but it makes riding in the spring that much more rewarding.

Yep winter sucks but it gives us time fix the little things without missing real riding time and cleaning/polishing to make them look new again. There is a great feeling when someone comes up to you and asks if it is new.NH1200C whos saddlebag do you have? I like'em

***** that winter storage!
Well, I still do mine because it doesn't cost me arm and leg to do it, I don't ride my bike in the winter at all, so no big deal. Although you don't want to do anything in the winter, I highly recommend fuel stabilizer, I learned from a few lawn movers I had in the past, the carb got gummed up after the winter season. Again, I have seen many bike with just the battery tender without problems.
