Default 42mm mikuni installed

well I been trying to hold off until I got the heads and cams for my bike but I couldnt stand it any longer.
so today I decided I would go ahead and put the new carb on it really isnt that difficult of a task . for some reason the instructions say remove the fuel tank why I dont know . I didnt do it and dont know why anybody would . anyway after a bit of tweaking and adjusting I hopped on that bad boy and lit up the highway . holy crap the difference in throttle response is amazing and the bike runs so much smoother .
It feels like the bike just wants to jump right out from underneath you , no hesitation or lag just instant launch.. I cant wait to do the heads and cams this is gonna be good.

Thanks for posting this bit of info. I was looking into a couple of carb kits but was unsure what I would need to modify on the intake to make them work. It sounds like a plug and play operation if you buy the right carb.

Just wondering, but had you rejetted before the new carb? I wonder if the bigger carb is that much better than a rejetted stock CV carb.

yes I had installed the dyna jet kit on my cv carb , the mikuni comes jetted to the general area of a screaming eagle exhaust and intake so far allI have done is adjust the air screw and idle adjustment . it is much easier than the cv. I dont think you will gain any horsepower but the carb will manage what you got better. you dont have to modify anything on the intake and the kit comes with an adapter to use screaming eagle a/c . I have the heavy screaming eagle heavy breather kit installed on mine.

Sweet. Thanks again. That sounds like a worthy upgrade if you plan to do any head work / displacement upgrades.

I have a 42mm Mikuni on my 98" FXD and it is easy to set the jets; idle needle is a touch more complicated.
