Default 4.5 gas tank

Happy Holidays to all, does anyone know if the newer 06 sportster 4.5 gas tank wiil fit and 01 model? i want to get a bigger tank that just will fit in with out any mods.

I could be wrong, and I'm sure I'll get corrected, but I believe they changed the tank mounting on the 2004+ models.

I saw your ride on the photo gallery -- very nice. Not sure I would think it worth giving up that good looking classic appearance for an extra gallon of gas. Think I'd hang a one-gallon can on the back before I'd do that.

I don't think they'll fit your bike, but there area couple companies that make bigger tanks for the Sporty. I had a Paughco 4.5gal tank on my last one and that extra gallon really DOES make a difference. (At least to me)

you can use a stretch tank for 4 gallons bolts right on and looks pritty good.

I think the 4 gallon pictured above would make the bike look much sleeker JMHO

Yeah, the "peanut" tanks are truly unique, but to ME the extra gallon really was worth losing that distinctive Sporty look. I wonder if anyone makes a slightly longer, taller, wider peanut tank that could hold the extra gallon and still keep the look?
