Oil consumption - What's normal on 1200?
How much oil do you use in 1100 miles?
My wife and I just came back from a 1100 mile trip (one way). She has an 07,1200 and I have a Street Glide. I am dead on full, she was at the bottom of the stick. Running Syn 3, no leaks, no smoke, had a little over 1000 miles on the clock before the trip, ran at 70-75 mph - 350 to 500 milesa day.

Yep - that was 2200 miles round trip. TX to Ohio and back. Last day was brutal because we were pushing hard to get home. BTW - I laugh at riders who bitch about their butts hurting on 100 mile rides. My wife has the stock 1200 Custom seat and a 65 year old ****!!! Still looks good too I might add!
Yep - it hurttoo but I figure she is intitled to any complaints.

All things being equal, the 2005 1200 Sportster I owned (with the EVO of course) went through a little oil, but nothing extreme. And like your Street Glide, my FatBoy doesn't seem to use a drop between changes..
My 1200C also ran 'clean', without any leaks or problems, and it would use slightly less than 1/2 quart between oil changes. I run a good synthetic oil and change the oil and filters on my bikes every 2,500 or so miles.
99.9% of my riding is between 65 to 75 MPH, and very little if any of it consists of city stop and go stuff.
I also don't understand the complaining about the stock seat on the 1200C.. I made many 300 to 400+ mile daily runs on my 2005, and found the seat to be comfortable. I never experienced the 'discomfort' many talk about, and had no plans to change it out.

Now I am starting to second guess myself. I didn't check it before we left because it just had it's 1000 mile service.(I know, shame on me for thatone)When I did check it in Ohio it was at the bottom of the stick.
I added a little and kept an eye on it. Seemed to be dropping so in Rolla, MO, I added almost aquart to bring it up to full hot. That was apx 500 miles from Dallas and we rode pretty hard back. I just checked it again and it's right where it should be - at the full mark.
Now I am beginning to wonder if it wasn't full after the 1000 mile service.Film at 11 or more accurately after the next 1000 miles. Still kicking myself for not checking before we left.

Harley's and any other manufacturer's official word is that 1 quart/1K mi. is normal. I personally find that unacceptable. 1/2-1 quart in 2200 miles is not something I would worry about considering the bike is still new. Put on some more miles and see what happens.

This is what the dealer told me. If you have pipes and didn't do the stage kit or other mods of programming, it will.
1. Burn oil
2. Turn the pipes blue
3. Crappie gas mileage.
I have all 3. Just waiting to spring the bucks for the power comander.

Ditto to everything OFG said ( except about the POS stock seat). I notice that about 1/4 quart of oil just disappears per 1K miles when running 70-75 on the highway. Also, many dealers are notorious for shorting you oil. Theres a good chance you left the stealer 1/2 quart low.
