Default Wheel End Play help

Posted this in the wheel section didn't get alot of response, thought I would try here.

I don't have a magnetic dial indicator to start off .

Bought a new wheel (after market 40 spoke),with new wheel bearings installed in the hub for the sporty, the wheel instructions say. Inspect wheel bearings for proper end play and excessive run out, prior to putting wheel into service.

End play should be set to .004" to .015" with axle nut torqued to 50 ft lbs.

Not sure what all this meant I looked in the H/D service manual regarding wheel end play and it said the lateral movement or end play must be less than 0.002 in.(0.05mm). Checked with magnetic dial indicator attached ,to the brake rotor..

If end play is 0.002 in.(0.05mm) ( right to left movement of the wheel) or more replace wheel bearings.

I guess I'll end up paying the dealer to bolt the rotor on to the wheel, install the wheel to the bike and check end play, run out.

Unless some one has a idea.
thanks
