I've used brake cleaner numerous times on the silver powder coated parts of my engine and it has never harmed the finish at all.

Good to know, thank you. It is worth a try... I am trying to talk myself out of trading it in on a FatBob...

Ever consider this might be the reason for the oil stain? Give this thread a read. Don't know if it will help or not, but does look like I possible cause (and solution) of the problem.

I just got my wifes sporty back on Tuesday. Had oil all down the right side of the gear case.
Only had about 350 miles on it. Dealers found crack in cover that has a bushing to hold the cam. Oil was leaking out then blowing down the case.
Dealer said it was a casting flaw. covered under warranty.
