Default Primary Mobil 75/90 seems to shift worse..

I replaced the transmission fluid with Mobil 1 75/90 synth and my manual says to add 1 quart but I took outa quart and 1/4. I think the bike is shifting noisier but I could not get the inspection plate off to check fluid level. I removed the primary chain inspection cover and filled it threw that hole instead. My bike is a 2005 1200 custom.

1 Should I put back what I took out which is more than a Quart?
2 Should I run regular gear oil instead of synth?
3 Should I take it to the dealer and have them remove the primary cover and install new fluid?

Let me know what ya think and thanks!!

I just done mine today,it seems to shift better and quieter.I think you put too much in,but that shouldnt make it shift worse.Good luck, and you dont have to remove the primary cover to put in new fluid.

If you took out more than 32 oz. ( 1 quart) then it was over filled to begin with. It should not be noiser. Mine shifts with only a slight click.. I don't know what you experience is as a wrench, but a drain and replace with 1 quart should work fine. If that's not the case then maybe a dealer visit is in order.

Don't take the derby cover off unless you have the bike on a lift, or at least someone holding it upright. If you remove the derby cover with the bike on the kickstand, transmission fluid will leak out.

Also, if you over fill, it might not affect how the bike shifts but it can and will eventually cause the clutch to drag.

One quart is what it takes. If that is what you put back in, then that is the right amount - regardless of what you took out. As cHarley said, "If you took out more than 32 oz. ( 1 quart) then it was over filled to begin with." You say, "I think the bike is shifting noisier...". Could that be your perception based on a pre-conceived idea that the Mobil 1 75/90 Synth would make it quieter, or is it truly noisier? If it truly is noisier to the point where it is worrisome to you, something is wrong and if it were my bike, I'd want awrenchto have a look at it.

HEY! I can't thank you guys enough for the quick responses!! The old fluid that I took out, I poured back into the empty mobil 1 bottle and it over flowed the bottle and there was still some in my drain pain so it was over filled.

I only put 1 quart back in likethe manual says to do, also it shifts fine it just sounds to me like its more defined or crisp when it goes in to gearmaybe its a good thing. As long as the level is where its suppose to be then I will put some miles on it and keep you posted to the out come, if there is a problem I will have it looked at.

I also change my oil and filter to Mobile 20/50 V-twin today as well. Thanks again for your all your help!!

Just to let you know, my second primary fluid change using Mobil 1 made the tranny even smoother and quieter. I cant't explain it, I just know it worked .

Mine got smoother too. I didn't bother measuring how much came out. I just dumped a quart in.

What is the proper strength fluid to use? Can I run amsoil 20w 50 or should I be using geal lube in the primary/trans on a 2000 883.
