Default Is this normal (shutter)

I can be cruiseing along in 3rd gear for instance about 40 mph, on a flat street get on the throttle hard, and feel what feels like a shutter through out the bike, same in 4 gear about 50 mph, and 5th gear about 60mph. Doesn't feel like I am lugging the engine.

Thats the best I can discrible it. Anybody else notice this on there 1200's.

i would say that hitting the throttle hard at only 40 mph in third is not enough r's, tell me does it happen only till the engine get to higher rpm's . try shifting down a gear then nail it. other than that don't know, maybe primary chain touch loose?

If you had a tach then you'd know that trying toaccelerate with the RPM 2000 or less is going to cause a lot of shaking and shuddering. I never could guess at the exact time to shift down by sound, but adding the tach made it obvious.Still, I wouldn't think getting on it in 5th at 60 (probably around 2500) would be a cause foryour engine to complain.

Possibly your injected '07 needs to have the remap (my '04 1200 and '02 RK are both carburated--thankfully).

I'm probably very over sensitive to this at the moment, but it sounds like your clutch might be slipping.

Hope the clutch is not slipping only 3500 miles on bike, when I nail it hard in first gear no detection of slippage, at times I feel the back tire break loose in 1st gear.

I have come to the conclusion that 1200c's don't like 30 and 40 mph. I'd talk to a qualified tech.

Oh...sorry Tom, I though you had more miles than that on your bike. Like I said...I'm probably a bit oversensitive about clutch issues right now.

At 30 mph, the bike is throttling high. You go into the next gear and it luggs until 40. Over 40 it wants to go into the next gear.

Yeah, I find that, too, just as Dallastx describes.

My 1200 will whine high and run happily in 2nd at 30mph, but in 3rd it at 30mph, it's revving low and surging (I have no EFI mods...yet). By 35mph in 3rd, it seems better. (The owner's manual, FWIW, says to shift into 4th at 35--yeah, right. shudder, shudder, shudder.) Same thing with each higher gear and additional 10mph.

A roll-on at 30 will still get a response out of the motor--it will accelerate quickly--but there is that initial shudder.

I've been wondering if adding an FI management thingy (e.g. V&H FuelPak, Cobra Fi2000, SERT/SERF, PCIII, etc.) would help that. From what I read and hear, it will. Very seriously considering getting the Cobra.
