Hey guys, if you look at my first post I mentioned that I have gone through two sets of plugs due to excessive richness. The plugs keep coming out totally covered all the way up the electrode with black soot. I also mentioned the excessive fuel burn off popping from the tailpipes. What I didn't mention was the very gasoline smell of the exhaust with or without the choke on.

I don't think I have a lean mixture problem, but thanks for the advice...

I did this Mod and posted it after I did the SE II's and the rejet of the Carb, along with the K & N Filter. I even tuned the Carb to the best it can be as far as Mixture and Idle adjustment, and was not happy with the throttle response. wannahdawg and I were workin on his Apes install, splicing the wires, and I noticed his SE air cleaner, itwas about what my Mod doesto the Factory Cleaner. Same thing, open backside, I have put many, many miles on my Sporty since this mod, hard miles in the twisties, I don't recommend it without the other mods, but by God it works fine with 'em. Thanks for the Props mrb302, glad it worked as well for you as it did for me.

I did a mod similar to this a few weeks ago cuz I was too broke for the forcewinder I wanted. Now I know that whatever I get, It wont seem worth it, because this mod just works that well. Crank the throttle and get instant, ***-kicking response. Neck bending response.

...sigh

and winters coming.

Interesting,

For those who oppose, what would be the sensible next step if stage 1 is completed but still intermittent coughs spits and sputters are noted ?

I have the Screaming Eagle air cleaner with Cycle Shack baloney cuts and had the carb rejetted. Even after this mod, I really didnt notice a drastic throttle response difference, although there was a slight change.

the jetting is wrong . 100.00 to get dyno tuned is money well spent

My bike is proper tuned, did dyno tests before and after, I do get intermittent coughs spits and sputters once in a while, it doesn't bother me at all. What else can I do?

Let's see if "******'s Air Box Mod" meets the "Eggroll Standard of Motorcycle Modification Criteria":

1) Is it cheap? Yes
2)Can it beperformed by a ten-thumbed hack? Yes
3) Is it cheap? Yes

Well, you can't argue with results like that. Looks like I'll be getting busy.

I guess an easily-reversable way to check if this mods for you is to run it filter only and see how things go. I just had my bike stage 1'd (k/n element- stock air housing, v/h pipes and pc3) and they made the comment that a SE2 aircleaner would be worth a couple extra hp. Is it even worth it then? I'm sure there's more of a diff on the 1200- more air in and out.
