Default Newbie looking to buy a Roadster

Hello, Everyone

I am looking to buy my first Harley in a few weeks and I the bike I am interested in is a 2008 1200cc Sportster Roadster.
Now I am 6'2 and 200lbs and I was wondering if that would be a problem. I really don't want a big bike. I like the look (and the price) of the Roadster and how easy it is to just jump on and go. I am planning on doing a lot of city riding will need a small bike.

I already have a sports-touring bike for long trips but I would like to know if the Roadster is good bike to do 200-300 mile road trips every now and then.

Thanks for any advice and I can't wait to join the HD family.

You will love it, the Roadsteris perfect forwhat you have described, it's light, fast, hasreally goodbrakes, it'sgreat around town and excellent for 3-4 hour runs.
In fact it's just as much fun as sex but lasts a lot longer (for me anyway)

I would opt for the 883 if you're doing only in-town riding because the 1200R has trouble (in my opinion) below 30mph. However, it does rule on the highway because the engine becomes completely smooth at 80/90mph. I would probably take the 1200 if you are doing a mix of both. You won't regret it! (and now the 2008 has the big tank, so less gas refills)

EDIT: And you will really appreciate the dual front discs. The Roadster stops on a dime.

The 1200R is badazz... It is my second favorite Sportie... I love the blacked out, flat-track inspired look... good stuff

If you're having trouble below 30 mph on a XL1200R, something must be wrong. Mine does just fine at 20-25-mph forlong periods oftime. In the summer, I live in a town where the speed limit is 25-mph on the entire island, and strictly enforced, so I get a lot of time in the saddle at 20-25 mph and I've never had a problem. Also, my engine and bikeare pretty darn smooth at 25-90 mph. Just what kind of problems are you experiencing?

At your height, some will tell you your legsmay betoo long forthe mid controls on the "R". This is only something you can determine. Try and get some saddle time on one.

I just bought a 1200XL Custom as my first Harley. I love the bike. The forward controls are far more comfortable than the mids to me. I also like the idea of longer rides with the bigger capacity gas tank.
