Sportsters are girl bikes ? this trip Kinda blows that theory all to heck !
Sportsters are just for local riding, bar hopping etc.....Kinda kills this myth !
Sportys are not reliable......Yea right !

This guys trip kinda kills ALOT of the sporty haters myths ! Excellent read, thanks fer posting this .

Exactly. When I e-mailed the guy (Mikey), I told him that he proved you don't need a $30,000 touring bike to do a trip like this. His bike was almost completely stock.

I've been spending most of what was left of the night going over that site, and from what he stated about the Sportster, and what kind of slippery "snot" he rode through, I don't think a tourer would have been appropriate!

Good point. If you read Pashnit's account of the trip he took up to Alaska (also a very good read), you'll find that he had a really hard time righting his bike every time he dropped it (he was on an early 80's rice tourer).
