Whats the best winter riding clothing?
#21
I bought a mag 8 helmet and a pair of milwaukee gloves. About a week or so ago I rode 40 miles in 30 degree weather. Actually it was two 20 mile trips, out to Mom's and back. I just had jeans and shirt and a canvas jacket. I can't say that I was toasty warm, but it wasn't unbearable. I think bensonjv has one up on us when it comes to the cold weather riding. He has mo experience than I do.

I was riding until a couple weeks ago here in chicago, till it start to snow and ice up...was riding home from work (20 miles) at night in 20 degree temp and windy...I wore a leather jacket with a sweat shirt over a knit shirt, sweat pants under jeans and 6" HD boots, for the hand, I have Olympica water proof gloves and a full helmet.....the only thing that cold was my finger tips and my neck area between helmet and jacket....Then i added a scarf around the neck and that solves that part of problem, was going to looking into heated gloves or heated grips..but never got any further as it's been snowing and I think riding is over for winter, I wanted to do Toys for Tots last sunday, but weather was brutal...not sure what attendence was, but nowhere near the 20000-30000 thousands previously.....

It's incredible. I cannot describe the comfort level of this jacket - I've been wearing leather for years and I have three excellent leather jackets and this one has everything beaten hands down. It fits loose enough to allow good air flow underneath when it's hot and you can tighten it down to stay warm and dry when the weather isn't perfect. When it's really cold, a fleece liner is wonderful.
For pants, simply wool thermals, jeans and riding trousers.
When it's stupid cold, I break out the HotHands hand warmers and stick them in my pockets.
For gloves, this is my current cold weather glove. Lined with real wool, none of that thinsulate crap that wears out so fast - there's a wind blocking liner on the back of the glove but not the palm so you can take advantage of heated hand grips (if you have them) and actually feel the controls.

For boots, nice wool socks and HotHands inserts.
