Default lube change advice please.

[sm=helpout.gif]Going to change my lube's. Want to use Royalpurple product's. Was told to use max-cycle 20w50
in crancase, primary and trans in my 98 1200c. Can anyone shed some light on whether this info is correct,or what you would recomend if it is not. Thanks everyone for all of the help! Ride safe!

You can use that oil in the engine and the primary/tranny. While HD says its "OK" to use the engine oil in the primary/tranny, I and many others believe it's better to use a Gear Oil instead. I run Modil-1 75w-90 Gear oil, but the choice of brand is up to you.

For Big Twin, 3 oil
Sportster, 2 oil, engine oil and primary/tranny oil
As long as you choose the same grade oil without friction modifier, you can use it in the primary case.

So it is Mobil 1 20-50 for the engine oil and Mobil 1 75-90 for the tranny right?

OR....I can use 20-50 in both?

You can use 20w50 in both but, Engine oil is formulated with additives to deal the byproducts of the combustion process that contaminate the oil. Gear oil is formulated to deal with molecular sheering that occurs in the tranny. They are 2 very different environments and I don't believe that the "One size fits all" is the best approach.
