What's your mpg?

RE: What's your mpg?
I can't accurately say, yet, as I'm still in break-in. My first fill-up yielded 42.7, but I'm thinking it will be much better as I ride it more. I'm still varying speeds, and keeping it below 5k rpm as the manual says. I'm riding slightly aggressively to get the rings to seat, but keeping well within maximum recommended RPM. Without a tach, that's just a wild guess, but I'm not wringing it out, so I'm thinking I'm doing ok.

As low as 42 and as high as 67. I really depends on the riding, topgraphy, and believe it or not, the brand of fuel. I was surprised today. I had a tank that just kept going, and going, and going. And I rode the bike pretty hard during that entire tank. Average speed was 80, and up to 95 for quite a while up hills...etc etc. Normally my milage goes to hell at those speeds. Not today. I rememberd the miles and gallons to fill up, and just did the calculation. 54.4444. Nothing spectacular, but under those riding conditions, it was surprising.

I averaged 52 when bike was stock. I consistently average 43 now. Thats probably 70% highway/30% city. Stock Harleys come very lean. A dyno test on mineconfirmed that. Properly tuned, I don't think a 1200 sportster will average above 50mpg unless you ride like granny.
