Default need help setting gas air mixture on carb.

I have a 79 XLH1000 sporty and its hard to start and when its running it pops and cracks through the carb. I had the carb redone its a S&S carb.
I put new points in it today and it is hard to start but when the bike is warm I can shut it off and it starts right up, but if it sits for 2minutes its very hard to start. can anyone help me with this? I would be very thankfull for any advise to fixing this problem.

You say you changed the points. How are the plugs and wires? Why do you feel its in the carb tune?.

The next question to ask you is: has the bike been running or has it been stored for awhile. Often the carb will gunk up and not do what it needs to be doing after being stored for so long. But you say that you put in a new S&S. Is your battery up to par? I believe that the bike is a kick start that you are referring to, right. A kick start bike is always harder to start. For some reason, wet/fouled plugs keep entering into my mind with your particular problem.

The following carb tuning instructions are for a CV carb but might just work for you. The instructions are at the end of the article.

The carb was cleaned and redone by a shop
