Default Painting engine covers?

Ok, so most of you know the issue I am having getting the grey coated nightster engine clean... no one can, so I have decided I will have the sprocket cover, cam cover, and the left side cover painted flat black, leaving the engine block still grey so it will be two tone black/grey just like the rockers.

My questions are what kinda paint should be used? and who do I take it to? I am no wrencher, so I will not even take them off... I live in NY not too far from woodstock, in a town called Germantown. I am 35 miles south of Albany NY.

Thanx for any help,

Lewd

I wouldn't recommend anything but powder coating

Definitely go with powder coat. If you use rattlecan, you will likely regret it down the road.

Don't get me wrong. I'm all about rattlecan painting, just not on a new bike.

You should learn to wrench. In the long run it makes sense as bikes are quite simple, especially sportsters. A perfect bike to learn on. I agree on powdercoating that stuff as well. Spray can will flake off too easily and it is obvious that youa re quite picky about how your bike looks. Wait until it starts to snow, and then get busy.

Lewd,
Check out the web site below. We can take care of your parts right away and get them back to ya within a day or two. We powder coat for the local Harley dealership so we have all the gloss levels and textures that come stock from the factory.

Thanx for all your input guys! I have indeed decided to powder coat flat black. Hey POWDERCOATER, Thanx for the offer/link, I checked out the web page looks great, but like I said before, I am no wrencher, and the guys at my dealer only use their guy... I am not about to pull those covers off my self. I am taking it to my dealer tomorrow. I will post pics when it is done!

Thanx guys/gals,

Lewd

Well I dropped her off at the dealership tonight! I am no too optomistic that they will get it clean... but we will see! I will most likely have them send the engine case covers out to be powder coated black. I will let all know the results of the cleaning attempt, and if they can not get it clean, I will post pics of the powder coat when I get it back. Should only be a few days as the guy they use is only a few miles away... I am a little worried as the black powder coat seems to be a different shade than the flat black on the nightster... kinda like the bluing of a gun barrel. Are there different shades?
