Motorcraft makes a synthetic 75w90 gear lube. You can get it at most any Ford dealership. =-)

Next is where to get 75w 90 gear oil without a mail order? Auto zone? Kragen? Who knows...
I would like to know also. Will have to do this when I get my ride back.

That may be an alternative, but after many hours of researching comparitive oil analysis reports of the top MC oils, I don't recall Motorcraft being included in any of them. Is the Motorcraft oil a group 2, 3, 4 or 5 synthetic product? HD makes synthetic oil but, after reading the analysis data I wouldn't put it in my bike.

Motorcraft may make a fine product but I wouldn't use it until I know what I'm buying.

That just my opinion. We are all free to make our own choices.

You are correct. Per the service manual that is the proper way to check the fluid level. However, pulling the derby cover is a pain in the a$$ and if you do it that way you will still wind up using 1 quart of fluid to bring the level up as indicated. If you are doing a drain & replace you can save a bunch of time and headache messing with the extra screws and quadring by just adding 1 quart through the inspection cover.

I get all of the Mobile-1 fluids at autozone.

The manual says 32 oz. Works for me. Guess I gotta get some different oil for it though. I guess I'll get Mobil 75w 90. Thanks again...
I'm using Mobil and it seems to be doing a good job. I'm happy with it

I done as charley said at about 9000 miles and now its been 3000 since the change and its alot better than it was, I bought the bike used so I have no idea what was in there, but witht he 75-90 its almost no noise from the tranny area now. And I refilled mine like stated.....drained and added 1 qt. in the inspection cover, replaced and been riding since with no problemos

hey cHarley...sorry so long gettin back to you.....

The Motorcraft 75w90 syn gear oil is an APIGL-5 class oil. API ratesitfor "high speed, high temp applications". 100% synthetic.Meets warranty requirements for all Ford and Dana 80 rearends and "is recommended by Dana to eliminate chatter". (that last part is from my Motorcraft book)

Mobile 1
Density..... .0859 kg/l
Pour point.....-46 C
Flash Point.....+175 C
Viscosity @ +40 C.....106 cSt

Ford Motorcraft
Density..... .88 kg/l
Pour point.....-40 C
Flash point..... +206 C
Viscosity @ +40 C.....130 cSt

That seems to be the most important stats I think......they're very close when you put them side by side.....a littlehigher freeze point for the Mobil 1....a good bit higher burn point for the Motorcraft...and better viscosity for the Motorcraft as well......I can tell you, it don't mind heat. We put it in big Super Duty rear ends. lol

Those numbers look good. The one important number thats missing is the moly content. The Sporty shares the oil with the primary and tranny the oil needs to have a very low to zero moly content because of the wet clutch. If that's the case it should be just fine.
