Default Who's getting a ECU remap done?

I have been told by two dealers that 07' Sportsters cannot have the F.I. ECU remapped for pipes and the S.E aircleaner. On another conversation with a service writer while having a recall taken care of, he asked me if there were any other problems needing to be taken care of, I told him the engine pinging while accelerating on the highway was annoying and asked him if he could map the ecu differently to take care of this, his reply was HD provided no means to change the ECU settings like the othertwin cam engine bikes. I pointed out that on the HD website a statement was provided under the SE aircleaner that an ECU remap was required..He said that is a generic statement for installing the SE aircleaner on HD bikes. He said they were understanding from HDthe Sportster F.I. was the first of all HD bikes that would have non remappable ECU's with the rest to follow in time, part ofthe EPA liability issue.

So my question;are these dealers feeding me a line of crap? I would think if they could, they would do it to make money.
Are other dealers telling people they are remapping theECU's, not really doing it and just taking there money?

Default RE: Who's getting a ECU remap done?

My '08 XL1200N is in the shop this second getting new Screamin Eagle muffler's, stage 1 a/c and an engine download that cost 150 bucks! I'm sure the ecu can be calibrated for new toys. The only reason I'm having the dealer do such easy work for me is because I don't have the equipment to reprogram my computer. I would get another opinion for sure.

I got a similar story from my dealer. [:@] I think its just a matter of ignorance. After I gave the parts guy a hard time, he finally pulled up my bike on their computer and saw what Shovelhead Bob posted.

Default RE: Who's getting a ECU remap done?

My dealer gave me the option, but recommended the dyno tune if I wanted to maximize output. I would have wanted it anyways. Dealing with performance mods on cars, I know that there is no one cookie cutter map that will optimize performance. I personally don't settle for 'runs OK', if I do a mod, I want the most out of what I have done.

So if you can actually get it done and if it costs a $150, it may be $$$wiser just to get a fuel pak or similar ecu piggyback module.
