Not only do they look "cool" but they are functional in as much as when you say "it's running hot", you can put a number on it. The temp. dipstick is also much easier to remove when checking the oil level than the stock dipstick.

I checked my temp today after running from the high desert back to the cooler coastal region I live in. Temps never broke 200. I run mobil1 in the crankcase and primary and redline heavy synthetic in the tranny. I ahve the s/e ac and pipes along with a pcIII.

Does Harley specify what "hot" actually is?????????

I thought about buying the temp gauge, but figured someone would probably just steal it when I wasn't looking.

If you buy a Harley Sportster shop manuel if tells all important imfo. likeoperating temp. ect.

cHarley you seem to have the resolution to my problem. I have switched to Mobil 1 15/50 SYN.and have not exceeded 200. I thank you.
