Those digital temperature dipsticks look great, but they aren't cheap and they are so easy for someone to steal.

That's the reason that I've never bought one of them.

How are you attempting to get it to pop up?

On mine I lightly push down on the cap while it is flush with the tank, it pops up a little, and then I turn it counterclockwise and remove it.
