It doesn't matter how you set up the breathers really as long as they breathe. No matter how you route the lines the stuff in the vent line isn't going back in the engine. I think most people just run what looks best, which is fine.

Seems like an excessive amount of mist is venting out my breathers. Bike is an '05 with 30k miles.
Once a week sounds excessive to me.

I have my breather filter mounted directly above, I assume this is fine?

It's a recent addition (thanks to DK Custom of course).

I did it that way mostly because it looked good, but I could easily move it below instead if that is "better" for the escaping air/oil/whatever?

Did you read the entire post?

My conclusion is they should exit downward. But, its your bike and other opinions are available.

You’re fuel tank looks good. Post up a pic.

You have the option to route the hose and filter to either above or below the air cleaner, but most choose to place it below the air cleaner.

However, it is a matter of person preference and whether there is room between the bottom of the tank and the top of your air cleaner.

The one main advantage of routing the hose and filter above the air cleaner would be having gravity on your side.

Install looks great!

So where is the oil going in that position? If it’s mounted below the air filter the oil will flow down.
In that position it looks like the misty air would be filtered and escape but wouldn’t the oil just sit in the tubes now ?

I concur and this from DK doesn't make sense, "The one main advantage of routing the hose and filter above the air cleaner would be having gravity on your side." in my opinion.

The misty air as it condenses will leave oil in the pipe close to the breather exit.

Cool

Alright, after taking advice from strangers on the internet 😂 I relocated the breather from above (see photo earlier in thread) to below my air cleaner assembly.

There was maybe a tiny bit of oil residue in the tubing when I removed the old setup. Nothing major, but then again I hadn't exactly put many 1000's of miles on it like that. I'll keep an eye on it and see if anything starts to drip out of the filter. If anything, the switch from above to below gives a little extra peace of mind.

So then I wheeled the Iron out for a short blast, you know, just to be sure! Cheers! 👍

I keep mine down and out, added a breather filter tucked below the TB.

Main thing I’ve seen helping is to run about 1/2 to 3/4 oil level on the dipstick when hot.

I put one of these knock-off Rough Crafts air filter assemblies on my Iron 883, the motor runs great with it installed.
