2012 Harley XL 1200 Forty Eight fuel pump not priming
We have a customer’s 2012 Harley XL 1200 not firing when we switch on the bike the fuel pump is not priming, I have checked the fuses they are all good and I switched the relays over to see if that would make a difference and it did not. The battery leads are all tight and the lead is tight on the starter motor these are the codes I get when I Diagnose it. It only has just under 3000 miles on the clock.
P0261 Front Injector Open/Low
P0263 Rear Injector Open/Low
P1002 System Relay Coil High/Shorted
P1003 System relay contacts open
If any one can give us any ideas what to check next.
Many Thanks

Codes set if there is a connector not connected, wire out of connector, an open in the harness, a short, or signal out of range. If none are found, it's more a fuel pump shorted with zero current to the unit.
If say you took the posi lead off the unit to see if current is sent to the pump, it's seems the pump is the problem. Make sense?

That timed run you call prime when you first key on is the ECM function.
Once cranking and the CSP (crank sensor) get about an engine turn to set timing , it fires sparkplug and turns on fuel pump that runs all the time motor runs.
Clear the codes if possible. That P1003 is probably the issue. It's not going anywhere with that issue.

Get a new relay and test it and the others on the bench.
Energise the relay coil and then test that the contacts when closed are very near if not 0 ohms. A few ohms will indicate the contacts are worn out.
If the system relay doesn't operate the injectors don't get powered so you get codes for them as well.
It is tricky sometimes fathoming what the codes actually mean.

Hi Bott, Yes Ive put a multi meter on the yellow and green wire at where the pumps connect to the harness and the earth lead bolted to the back of the casing and I’m getting no current so does this show the relay is bad or where does the yellow and green get the power from ?
Thanks Sheps
