One insurance claim I had, required me to go to the shareholders meeting and embareass the CEO in public to get any action. That was after fighting with them for over 15 months. It was amazing how quickly things got handled then. I was 600 miles away from home, and the money got to my mailbox, before I got home.

Okay, the way I'm reading this is they paid an amount minus deductible to the owner to do his own repairs and forced a salvage title on him. He took bike to HD for repairs (to be owner paid) but when HD discovered the salvage title, they called in their financing.
In the end:
The salvage title screws everybody that has a stake in this bike in the everafter.
If an insurance company does the total loss/ buyback thing, they are supposed to first, pay your loan off with after-deductible money and only give you the residual amount, if any, after you've bought the salvage. If you are upside down, you may even hafta pay off the deficit of your loan and lose the wreckedbike or pay cash to get it back.
If they pay to have your bike fixed, there is no salvage title and your financing can remain intact.
It's probably better to walk away with nothing than to own a bike with a salvage, or restored salvage title.
You can then just simplyfinance an undamaged bike!

From what I can tell, option number 2 should never have been an option and is potentially Illegal. If I was RoadHead I would probably have taken it, get money, get your bike fixed, come out ahead on financing. Sounds great, but I am pretty sure Progressive screwed the monkey on this on.

The only problem is that he cashed a check made out to him and HD. That covered the insurance co. a$$, it sounds like it is going to work out, but all they have to say is we paid HD he should have mailed them the check. I would have let them keep it cut my losses and got a different bike.
