My worthless opinion? I like FI. I like a newer bike. I like windshield for practical highway purposes. I like saddlebags to carry all my crap. BUT....The 1200 Custom is the one I would get, if I narrowed the choice down to your two bikes. The 1200 is actually the "newer" of the two as far as mileage goes. Ask the dealer to do the 1,000 mile service for you, and you'll pay for the synthetic oil (only if you WANT synthetic), and they have a cash deal. If they balk, kindly ask them, "why in the h*ll would I want to lay out cash on a pre-owned bike that the dealer hasn't even serviced properly? Before I lay out my hard-earned cash? I want this bike properly serviced BEFORE I buy it. But if you commit to the service, we can start the paperwork, and I'll write a check TODAY!"

Maybe that would work. Me? I'd probably be slobbering over it too much to pull it off successfully!

Solo Riding or 2 up? Solo, the 883 will have power aplenty, well maybe not enough to satisfy yer ego, so if ya like most people, get the 1200 cause the awesome power difference will surley haunt you forever if ya don't get the 1200! Plus you'll never hear anyone say, Oh an 883, or yashoulda got the 1200, or if ya gonna buy a Sportster AT least get a 1200,,,,whatever.

Thanks for the reply. The 1200C is with a private owner, not a dealer. I got him to come down to $7,400 before taxes and title. I plan on taking the bike to the dealer this weekend to get the 1,000 mile service. Can a local cycle shop do the service and it still stay under warranty? I ask because the dealer wants $285 for the service and I'm sure a non-Harley service center would be cheaper.

Anyhow, I've decided that I'm going to take a look at the 1200C on Friday. If I like it, I'll be riding it home!

I plan on taking my wife as often as I can, so yes, I will be doing a lot of 2-up riding. It's looking like I'm going for the 1200. I'll order the Sundowner and windshield (it already has a sissy bar) as soon as I return home with the bike (if I choose to buy) to make it a more comfortable 2-up riding bike.

My wife's response when she saw the thin stock 2-up seat..."How am I going to sit on that?"

Well, I brought her home on Friday! I chose the Blue / Silver 1200C. I had read everybody's comments about not being able to wipe the grin off their faces when they took their first rides and I always took it as a figure of speech. I was very mistaken! My mouth honestly did hurt from grinning the whole ride home. I could not be happier. I've taken some digital photos and I'll be posting them along wiht my mini-review sometime this weekend.

Thanks for all your help and for pushing me in the direction of the 1200.

Rock on.

Congrats on your decision. The grin is for real as you now know---be careful though some bugs don't taste that good.
