Default Choke cable

This is the 3rd time this has happened.Granted I've had the bike since March 2003,so I guess 3 times isn't too bad,but it still get's me mad when stupid crap just keeps going on without something to fix the problem.I've complained to the Dealer and Customer Service but still it goes on.Ok now that the RANT is over here's the problem:

The choke cable mounting system. The backside of the mounting hardware is a metal nut tightning down on a piece of plastic. What metal on plastic? Who made that call? It just keeps stripping out and then the cable **** just hangs there and beats against my horn.[:@]I know the cable is only $8.50 but having to fix it every 2 years is a joke. Can someone Harley-Davidson please fix this problem.

Maybe that big honkin **** is weighing it down? Dunno man, mine has never had an issue. The retainer nut does not have to be tight for it to stay on. You can basically finger tighten it and then give it a 1/8 turn snug with a wrench and you are done. The plastic thumb wheel is to tighten or loosen the choke resistance itself. Hope that helps.

That Chrome cover shouldn't weigh it down that much.Plus it did it the first time before I had the cover.I'm not talking about the plastic wheel.I'm talking about behind the bracket thenut to tighten it down is on plastic threads.Soon as it is anything past finger tight it strips out,and if it's finger tight it slips outta the housing.Especially at high rpm's.It just vibrates it's way out.If it were ametal nut onto metal threads it would hold much better. That's all I'm saying.

Close the loop on the housing (make it like a hole) next time you replace it.

I was thinking about doing that.I'll have to find some metal to weld up in there.
