Oil and trans oil change first time

Oil and trans oil change first time
Hey all,
I'm going to be moving and before I do, I'd like to take advantage of my garage one last time and do the oil and trans fluid on my 06 sportster. The first 1000k service was done at the dealer, now at a meger 2700k or so, I figure I'd like to get the oil out of the bike, and the trans oil and replace it. I have all the HD oil/filter, pan etc, just wondering now for the future, should I change it around every 3k or so or basically when the oil get's funky and nasty. Any other things I should check/adjust while I'm at it?
