Very loud tapping randomly...exhaust leak, lifter?

Effectively yes. Although I never really did find the culprit. I am not sure what I am going to do with the "old" engine yet. I think I am just going to put it back together on the stand and it will become garage art for now I guess. Although that might just **** me off seeing it all the time as everything but the bottom end is still pretty much new.
I just added the cost of the new motor to this thread in case anyone was curious as I was digging around when I was researching and couldn't really find any recent info on costs. Even going through the process there are so many parts I didn't know the real cost until I got the invoices.
So I guess the moral of the story is very loud tapping can mean very big headaches and a bunch of cash or it could just be a bad lifter that costs you $100 to fix. Who knows. This thread turned out to be more a documentation of my failures than anything else really so sorry to anyone looking at this in the future whos hoping for a solution. I hope you started reading this from the end.

Very cool that you listed the pricing. Also very cool that you went through the troubleshooting process openly. The MMQB’s who have opinions after the fact are just that, never paid any attention to them. Like Nikola Tesla said “ the boldness of ignorance”.
Looking forward for a ride review on the new power train, congrats.
