I have been riding on a few long trips on my sporty (above 400 miles) and on the interstate it seems to need one more gear. Has anyone done a baker 6 speed tranny swap? Does it work better and how much was the swap with labor?
RE: Has anyone done a 6 speed tranny for sportster
the engine and tranny on a sporty is intregraded. big twins have a seperate tranny, so im pretty sure you couldnt do the swap. one thing you may think of us up sizing the front pully (at the tranny) i did on my sporty and it lowered the rpm by about 400 at 70 mph. i use a 30 tooth pully.

The baker 6 speed has an overdrive of .86 your stock sportster is 1:1
Yes the tranny on a sportster is intergrated but the swap is internal so the ad reads.
check it out on the web

A Baker 6 speed for the 03' and earlier sportster is going to cost about $2000 for the gearset, plus labor and some misc. gaskets and other small items. Save the cost of labor if you do it yourself. It does have a .86 OD.
