I am about to change my oil.I went today to purchase my oil "3 quarts", tranny fluid "1 quart", oil filter, and all my new seals and gasket. I was just wondering why they gave me so many seals? I know one is for the primary cover, one for the oil filter, and the other two I think they go to the drain plugs?

 

I wouldnt pull the primary cover off..........after you drain it.....make sure the bike is almost level(use a block of wood under the kickstand if you dont have a bike jack) but be careful and done let the bike turn over.

I removed the smaller chain inspection cover and added 1 qt of fluid and went that route per other members suggestions and I found it to be alot easier

I am about to do the same, I have my oil and tranny oil still got to get the filter but didn't know about seals?....what seals..? I have my service book coming so will not do anything till it arives, this will be my 5000 service any info would be greatly appreciated

 

If your changing the oils at the 1K or 5K service it's unlikely you will need to replace any of the gaskets. The procedure calls for them to be inspected, and replaced IF necessary.
