Looks like good stuff. Although I wouldn't expect anything near the 250 deg rating that high above the engine, the heat resistance is probably helpful for something that goes through many heat cycles.

Makes sense. I've seen several votes for model enamel paint. Simple and cheap, and I like the idea of not having to cover everything around it.

The two bikes I have here have suffered where the tank seems to rub the frame. I put a piece of duct tape on the frame to try and protect ti.
The first time I took the tank off, it seemed to require way too much wrangling. I'm a little better at it now, but it definitely doesn't just lift off for me. Not sure if it's just a matter of knowing the precise angle at which to pull it away, or whether the snugness is by design. In any case, I'm pretty sure that's what gouged the paint.

If it's just to protect the metal, probably a rustoleum or krypton rattle can would do.

I've only used it on small areas but never had any issues. I've filled some pretty good size chips on my gas tank as well and it's proven itself tough as nails. It's held up over the years better than anything else I've tried. Only downside is it takes a long time to dry. I use these testors micro sponges to apply it for small nicks and scratches and it works amazingly well.
