While I have done all my subsequent services, I think it's foolish not to let the dealer do the 1K. It really locks in your warranty and puts in writing that the dealer has certified all the factory adjustments.

The fastener check ("check critical fasteners") is important, though. I found a couple loose ones - one an engine mounting bolt. You do need the manual for that list of items to check. And I will be checking them all at 5K, too.

That is the reason that I took it to the dealer for this service. I was just taken back by the cost, I fully expected to pay $100-125, but never thought it would be $250. I have all of the tools to do it myself from now on and will order the service manual this weekend. I have always enjoyed doing that stuff on my truck anyway.

My dealer doesn't charge for the 1k if you buy your bike there. They only charged me the difference for the synthetic. Not a bad deal.

I am about to change mine myself but letting them check the belts and things. I went today to purchase my oil "3 quarts", tranny fluid "1 quart", oil filter, and all my new seals and gasket. I was just wondering why they gave me so many seals? I know one is for the primary cover, one for the oil filter, and the other two I think they go to the drain plugs?

I paid 128.50, had it done in early june they did a wonderful job, 06 1200C, even washed and dried it, gave some helpful advice, much props to Wyoming County h-d in Varysburg N.Y. this is one of the smallest dealers in the U.S..
