Default hunting for primary whine

howdy folks
im on a 91 xlh sporty 5 speed

i have a whine that increases in pitch as i increase the speed, very high pitch - mostly presents its self in 3rd and 4th but you can hear it in all gears. goes away with the clutch disengaged… which led me to think it was the throw out/clutch bearing. put in an old one i had from another bike, that seemed, sounded fine, new plates, also put in a pristine new transmission, and welp it’s still singing, shifting great, ripping, but this damn whine!

looking to see where y’all might think to look next. icb? pulley? i’m trying to get this thing dialed i don’t want a bearing exploding on me in the middle of a trip, and i’m SO tired of pulling this primary 😂

also the main gear/5th gear bearing felt fine when i was in there.

lemme
know whacha think

Check your primary chain tension, it may be too tight. When adjusting make sure you spin the rear tire as there may be a tight spot in the chain.

There's something to be said for louder pipes but I don't know because you're in California

Just a thought, but I was sure it was a bearing or something squealing, turned out it was my heatshields on my V&H Short Shots.
