Valve train noise after top end rebuild.

Thanks for the follow up. I may call Larry tomorrow as he is closed today. I am still looking at the fueling lifters as well as those are $80 cheaper and have good reviews, and good customer service, as well. I use their ARP head bolts and they are a thing of beauty.

I wanted to give some feedback on these lifters from Larry that may give some insight into the issue you were experiencing. I ordered a set from Larry and got them in a few days ago. I have a tappet tester tool which allows you to pump them up on the bench. I tested all my old S&S lifters and one was bad the other three were good. When I went to test the Hylift lifters from Larry I could not get them to pump up and once I did they leaked down too fast. My S&S lifters were leaking down in about 6 minutes, the Hylifts were leaking down in under 4. A good lifter should leak down in 5 to 8 minutes. On the last lifter I pulled the whole lifter apart and found that there is oil already in the lifter under the main plunger but it is very lightweight oil (doesn't look like motor oil). I drained this oil and put in regular motor oil and reassembled and it pumped up right away and leaked down in about 6 minutes like the old lifters did. It seems the oil that the lifter ships with may keep the lifter from pumping up right away. Just a theory anyway as that seemed to be the case for me yesterday. I thought all the lifters were bad or something initially as that was how they were acting on the tester, but once that lightweight oil was removed they acted normally.
