Default Sportster seat fitment

What's the scoop on seat fitment on the 04-06 Sportsters? I notice some seats make reference to the gas tank size and others say they fit all 04-06 or even all Sportsters.

I'm shopping for a dual seat to replace the stock solo crotch-number that came on my 06 XL883.

Oh yeah, I'm new here,,,Hi all! I've got 200 miles on my Sporster now. Wanted one for 37 years. Got it and lovin it! Except for that seat of course. And it needs wider bars so I'm not looking at my arms in the mirrors.

Hey Muddy. I'm new here too. I've also got an '06 XL883. I tried to trade the seat off of an '05 XL1200 Custom, and the seat would not fit. He had the larger gas tank. I just hit about 600 miles on mine. I thought the same thing about the stock mirrors. They sucked, I couldn't see a thing. I just replaced them with the Skull mirros, which are longer (before I put them on, I actually thought I wouldn't be able to see anything at all) and now I can see a LOT better. Good luck, and welcome to the forum. I'm still learning my way around it, as I've only been here a couple days, but so far it's great. Ride safe.

Welcome to the forum guys. Have you thought about asking the dealer for recommendations on seats that fit?

I got lucky on mine, I have a sundowner that fits perfect even though my tank is not stock.

I always call and ask about the fit vs model and get a name in case it does not fit.

the smaller tanks on the 883's make it important to insure the seat you're looking at will fit like brohrs says. most all seats list comparable bikes to be used on. good luck.

Owned two sportys, the 883 and now the 1200c. Highly recommend the Sundowner. They make one for the peanut tank and one for the stretch tank. Well worth the investment.
