If you haven't got a 4.5 (US) gallon tank then one from a Custom or Superlow will be an increase in size but you will need to look to see if your current seat will still fit.
With bigger displacement comes more power and to get more power out you have to put more in.
Interesting, mine actually went up when I did the upper end. I was geared to a 1200 way before I did the top end so that must have been it. The 4.5 tank will give you a different look but there's bigger aftermarkets that still have the peanut look. Good luck.
If anyone is interested this is your crank gear that drives the primary chain. No matter what you do to that engine the gearing is going to stay the same unless you gear it. The 1200 crank gear is sizably bigger and changes your gearing across the board. If you install the 1200 crank gear you'll have to use a 1200 primary chain too. This is what I did on my 2016.
Basically what I'm saying is if you want it to ride like a 1200, which is much nicer, there's more to it than just the top end. When you change that crank gear you're lowering your engine rpm at any given speed and believe it or not you'll get less engine vibration. Less engine vibration means the motor might even stay together a little longer.
My bike came with the 4.5 and all I can tell you is I had make sure the seat would work with a 4.5 when I ordered one. I won't be putting a peanut tank on mine because I ride distances in the desert.
Once you have the 4.5 tank you just keep rolling with it and the next thing you know you have a slightly smaller version of a Street Glide. It's the bikes natural coarse, Touring tank.
