Waiting on new starter relay today, but I don't think that's the issue.
While cranking the voltage reading from pos and neg battery is 10v, also from neg battery to positive terminal on starter 10v.
From what i have read this is near the threshold/limit of being too low for the ignition module to send a spark.
can anyone verify that this is too low? I was hoping that it would indicate excessive drop caused by starter, since after I replace the relay later today
I will have tested EVERYTHING in the service manual except the actual starter.
It is stock and quite old, even during the decade I rode this chopper it always cranked a bit slow, but It is built up to 1200cc with flat-top pistons so I assumed the additional compression was slowing the starter.
Should eliminate the relay possibility by this evening.

BTW the starter cranks plenty strong so and never "clicks" and fails to engage. I just wonder if it could be causing the voltage drop and my no spark issue.

Unless all this testing is pointing toward ignition module failure. It sends voltage to coils and sensor, and receives signal from sensor, as stated above, but no spark.

Update: I found one test I missed on Sporsterpedia to test module for spark.
  • Turn the Keyswitch to ON & place the RUN/STOP switch in the RUN position
  • Using harness Connector 14B (which goes to the ICM), briefly short Pin(B) to Pin(C) using a paper clip in the sockets
  • Note: The first four signals are ignored so do this 6-10 times
  • After the first four times, when the short is broken, the ICM should fire the coil & produce a blue spark.
No Spark. (DOH!!!!)

UPDATE

The ECM was indeed bad. Did a thread on ending up with the Ultima unit that timed right up easy. Fired up chopper in a flash. Time will tell on the Ulltima unit but I was surprised how easy it was to swap in. 7 less wires under my seat too.
