Im swapping a spoked rear with new tire and noticed the chrome is peeling. Will that eat my belt?

Are the $229 ebay chain conversions any good?

I'd say no, it don't look too hungry yet, but keep yer eye on it. Chain conversion off ebay? As the saying goes 'let the buyer beware'

 

HD chrome the pulley teeth for strength. I can only guess then that without the chrome the aluminium will wear away faster.

 

If it were my bike, I would replace the sprocket.

Sprockets are expensive, but if you only get part life out of a belt because of a worn sprocket, you will be buying a belt sooner, and a sprocket...

Try to eyeball the front sprocket if possible to make sure it is ok.

I stick with OEM parts on the driveline.

Avoid any important mechanical components from ebay, unless it is a known reputable vendor.

Be wary of name brand items from unknown vendors, counterfeit products are out there big time.

 

Yeah that looks pretty rough. I'd inspect the belt frequently until you something done.
Do some deep research on chain conversion and go with a reputable outfit if you go that direction - see Delboy or Shade tree surgeon or Jordan Ray for chain conversions

 

It’s fine. The chrome finish is coming off. Run it. I work on these bikes daily and I wouldn’t replace that. but hey, if you’re concerned go for it!

 

thanks. that helps. kinda want a chain BUT this bike has $50k miles, I paid 500 for it and should really ride it a bit before sinking any unnecessary $$ into it!
