Default which way does rear wheel go?

hi all, I bought a spoked rear wheel, bare (no sprocket or brake rotor) for my 2000 sporty. I dropped it off to get the dunlop mounted at a non harley shop. I noticed that the hub sticks out more on one side than the other. which side is the belt sprocket and which is the brake? they said they'd find out but I want to double check.

thanks!

Are the bolt holes the same? Been a long time ago when I changed the rotors out but I thought the drive was a bigger size?

Just guessing but the offset is chain clearance. On a Softail, its belt clearance.

But depending on caliper, could be getting it away from spokes.

So I'm not a bit of help. Just keeping you at top

if your tire guy is any good he put it on correctly. just put it together with the tire rotating correctly and you should be good to go.. if not - take it back to him, give him a ration of sh-t and make him turn the tire around and rebalance on his dime.

thanks guys, they are good but not a hd dealer (the dealer wouldnt mount something they didnt sell themselves). he said he could find out, but if I find out I can call and confirm. hope they find out right, OR someone might chime in and say "the side stickin out more is the xyz side" is what I was hopin for, so I can pass it along.

as to the bolt pattern it looked the same to my eye.

as to why I didnt take the allow rear off and apart, I thought the new wire wheel was symetrical, and that way I could jack the bike, take off the front, and not have to figure out how to hold the bike up with both wheels off...

If you have rear off, and carrying both to Inde , it should be a simple matter to use a sacrificed yard stick or 1X2s and a little measuring to the inner face of the sprocket and rotor.

I sure would be doing the exact thing you are wanting to know.

I personally would be marking it for them.

I carry my wheels in for mounted tires. I have never had a directional tire but if I did, I sure would mark it, for sure if taken to a Inde

As was said the bolt hole sizes are different, 7/16" on the drive side, 3/8" on the brake disc side
