My gas cap rattles like a b-ach, looks like im missing a O ring under the cap but I don.t know. 2003 sportster 1200******* SOLVED...it turns out that JP cycles sells a OEM o ring that fits my bike $2.99 and $7.99 shipping. THIEVING SOBs....looks like a trip to the local hardware store tomorrow.

The thieves as you call them will probably be the shipping company.

I always buy 'O' rings from my local bearing factors supplier, they have everything that I need.

Not sure an O ring will do the job.

After taking a quick look at the cap on my bike the o-ring seals the screw thread to the tank. The part that rattles is the top itself as it's not directly connected but has a ratchet mechanism; its own in built torque wrench.

I bought one of these years ago for the same reason, works great and I’ve had a lot of complements about it.

So, you need to carry that tool with you? Does it screw into the stock opening?

I agree. The oring will seal the cap to the tank. The upper piece will likely still rattle.

The OP should just replace the gas cap.

Harley still sells that part (gasket)

Ref: 17
61100194
CAP,FUEL,GASKET
This part replaces 61109-85D.
Price: $14.80

Couple more dollars.

Also what I thought was my gas cap rattling actually was my horn hitting the frame. Found that out cleaning the bike and noticed witness marks on the frame.

It doesn't actually say but probably the bit you open screws into the big bit. The big bit screws in like a gas cap.
